ARC has recently become aware of a new scam in which a caller posing as an airline employee is contacting agencies to gain login information to the airline's own travel agent-accessible Web site. The scammer claims to need information such as the agency's Web site login name, password, and ARC number, in order to process a mystery refund or send a commission check to the agency. The scammer is interested only in learning the agency's login name, password and ARC number. This information is then used to access the airline's travel agent-accessible Web site to purchase tickets using compromised credit cards. These tickets will then appear in the agent's IAR report the following day for settlement through ARC.
Agents are requested to advise all employees of this scheme in order that this vital Web site access information is not transmitted to scammers. Any real airline employee would already have this vital information prior to making contact with any ARC-accredited travel agency.
