Credit Card Masking in IAR and in the Back Office System (BOS) File

Effective Thursday, September 20, 2007, IAR and the Back Office System (BOS) will be enhanced, masking the credit card numbers in the Form of Payment and Fare Calculation fields. The purpose of this enhancement is to comply with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security standards, ARC’s Data Security standards, and to better protect your data.

The following are specific details of the change in IAR:
  1. Credit card numbers will be masked by default for all IAR users.
  2. All credit card numbers displayed in the Form of Payment and Fare Calculation fields in IAR will be masked by asterisks except for the last 4-digits of the number.
  3. The alpha-character card type indicator will not be masked.

  4. Example – AX***********0123
The following are specific details of the change in BOS:
  1. Credit cards numbers will be unmasked by default.
  2. Credit card numbers in the Form of Payment Account Number (FPAC) and Fare Calculation Area (FRCA) fields have the option of being masked. If masked, it will be masked by asterisks except for the last 4-digits of the number.
  3. The alpha-character card type indicator in the FPAC field will not be masked.

  4. Example AX***********0123
The masking of credit card numbers will be managed by your agency’s IAR Administrator. IAR Administrators will be able to turn the credit card masking feature on and off by username for IAR and by organization for BOS.

In addition to credit card masking, the IAR User Administration functionality will be enhanced to allow IAR Administrators to modify their own user profiles. Users with a BOS File Table user role will be able to download BOS files.

Q:   What is credit card masking?
A:   Credit card masking is the disguising of credit card numbers so that the numbers are not visible.
 
Q:   Why is ARC doing this?
A:   ARC is masking the credit card numbers in order to comply with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, ARC’s Data Security Standard, and to better protect your data.
 
Q:   What fields in IAR will be masked?
A:   The Form of Payment and the Fare Calculation fields in IAR will be masked for all transactions.
 
Q:   What fields in the Back Office System (BOS) file will be masked?
A:   The Form of Payment Account Number (FPAC) and the Fare Calculation Area (FRCA) fields will be masked in the BOS file for all transactions.
 
Q:   Will the credit card masking feature be turned on for all IAR and BOS users?

Q:   If the credit card number is masked, how will I identify the credit card type?

Q:   If my job responsibility requires that I be able to see credit card numbers, who do I contact?
A:   The masking of credit card numbers will be managed by your agency’s IAR Administrator. IAR Administrators will be able to turn the credit card masking feature off and on by username for IAR and on and off by organization for BOS.
 
Q:   I am an IAR Administrator, how do I turn off and on the credit card masking functions for an IAR user? How do I turn it on and off for BOS?
A:   For IAR, on the User Profile page under IAR User Administration, un-check the Mask Credit Card Numbers check box to unmask credit card numbers for a user. Check the box to mask credit card numbers for a user. For BOS, on the IAR Users tab under IAR User Administration, check the Mask Credit Card Numbers in All Back Office System (BOS) Files check box to mask credit card numbers in the BOS files for an organization. Un-check the box to unmask credit card numbers for an organization.
