Position: Lead Application Engineer

Reports To: Senior Manager Product Engineering IP&S Support
Overview:
The Lead Application Engineer works closely with the Senior Manager of Product Engineering Industry Products and Services Support and cross-functional ARC teams to develop, implement, and maintain software products in support of ARC’s Industry Products and Services business line.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, implement, and maintain software products for the Product Engineering Industry Products & Services Support department.
- Develop and deploy web and Internet-based products and services with minimal direction and based on documented user requirements.
- Develop level of effort and cost estimates for technical activities
- Assist in making build vs. buy decisions and lead technical evaluation of vendor proposals.
- Coordinate technical activities with external contractors.
- Coordinate technical requirements, activities, and requirements with Technical Services and other departments.
- Develop work plans and track/report costs and status of assigned projects/tasks.
- Perform in multiple roles based on project requirements. Roles include application engineer, architect, technical supervisor, and technical project coordinator.
- Develop and maintain technical requirements and system documentation.
- Participate in business process redesign initiatives to support ARC’s strategic goals.
- Provide 24-hour support for new production loads as needed.
Develop capabilities of Application Engineers within the Product Engineering Industry Products & Services support department.
- Assist Application Engineers in developing technical capabilities according to product and technical requirements
- Define staffing and capability requirements based on business line and ARC plans and strategic goals.
Become “trusted advisor” within and outside the Product Engineering Industry Products & Services support department by advising and guiding technical projects and activities across ARC.
- Provide guidance, leadership and input into the Enterprise Architecture activities representing Industry Products & Services projects and initiatives and contribute to and create technical standards and practices to improve development process across all of Product Engineering
- Provide technical and professional assistance to other ARC staff members.
- Perform on-going evaluation of the development team's toolkit, recommending new purchases and upgrades to existing tools as required.

Skills/Knowledge Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
- Analytical design and problem solving skills with excellent oral and written communication skill.
- Overall eight (8) years of development experience, four (4) years of application programming development experience in design and construction utilizing J2EE, JSF, and Enterprise Java Beans. Highly knowledgeable in all components and their life cycles.
- Current expertise with object oriented design methodology and UML modeling, to include experience with UML Class and Sequence diagramming to elaborate on use-case and activity diagrams:
- Detailed Class diagrams to fully describe inheritance and associations.
- Detailed sequence diagramming to identify to Class interactions down to the methods.
- Current expertise with:
- Using Struts.
- Using/applying design patterns.
- Developing in a Portal environment.
- Three (3) years of XML design and development
- Three (3) years of web service development
- Knowledge of a range of platforms that include Unix and Windows NT.
- Experience supporting both development and production environments.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Skills/Knowledge Preferred:
- Sun certified Java Programmer/Developer.
- Three (3) years of full J2EE application programming development experience with BEA Weblogic Application Server 9 or higher, Oracle 9i or higher, Microsoft SQL and/or MSQL and LDAP, JBuilder or Eclipse, Together ControlCenter.
- Experience with:
- Mercury Load/Functional testing and defect tracking tools.
- Developing in a Portal environment utilizing BEA Weblogic Portal 9.2 or higher
